DOUBLE FOR DUFFY
RALLOY/TSL MULL FOREST STAGES RALLY 2007
Saturday the 20th saw Mull Car Club's Ralloy/TSL forest stages rally on the island. Starting at the Salen Hotel this year's route included the new fast ,demanding Antuim stage and two of last years stages combined. A good entry of 51 on an acceptable January day running 2WD in front followed by the 4WD contingent provided a competitive and enjoyable atmosphere for entrants and spectators alike.
SS1 Fishnish sponsored by
the Mishnish saw Gary Adam/Gordon Adam in an Impreza fastest and 3 seconds slower
were Callum Duffy/Del Duffy in an Escort Mk2 on the pace. James MacGillivray/Ian
Fraser set a very fast time in their 6R4 and John Allan /Ali Campbell Subaru
Legacy were quick too.
On SS2 Nicolson Maps Fishnish -Malloch Nichol/Ian
Nichol (evo) went faster followed by John Gray / Stuart Loudon ( escort mk1)
then 2006 winner Paul Mackinnon/Neil Mackinnon
On SS3 Macgochans - fastest time was taken by Paul
Mackinnon but also caused the retirement of MacGillivray/ Fraser 6R4 with propshaft
damage and claimed Gray/ Loudon
Gary Adam was again quickest on SS4( Salen Hotel)
but this time Duffy was only 2 seconds adrift.Phil and Mick Squires ventured
north to take part but went off on SS4 though they were able to continue with
a significant loss of time.
The testing Quinish (Macdonald Arms) stage SS5
lived up to its reputation claiming Malloch Nichol, (off) and Gary Adam ( punctured)
and after an impressive start to their Rallying career John MacCrone and Zak
Hancock in the Bearcubs Corsa retired with a broken driveshaft, while Paul Mackinnon
put in the fastest time.
SS6 (Isle of Mull Hotel) the short Ardmore stage saw Paul Mackinnon leading
at service with Duffy 2nd .
On SS7 (RCF Distribution) Duffy set fastest time
followed by Mackinnon and the MK2 of the Squires
SS8 (Don Construction) Mackinnon pulled back 6
secs on Duffy and Jimmy Patterson/Fred Maclean (impreza)were setting top times
climbing up the leaderboard.
SS9 (Bellachroy Hotel) proved to be the toughest
with Mackinnon losing time through punctures and Patterson slowed by overshoot
at J6
Duffy set fastest time an incredible 21secs quicker than the Squires followed
by an impressive stage for John Woodward/Rich Pover Escort GAC, 3rd fastest
andSteven Ronaldson/ Ian Arbuthnott, also set a good time
The final stage of the day SS10 ( Mull Hire) saw
no let up in competition with Mackinnon ,Duffy and Patterson all posting the
fastest time.
It was a happy Duffy family at the finish with their first forest win at the first attempt but probably not the last.
Award for best entertainer went to John MacCrone/Zak Hancock in the Bearcubs corsa
